Seachange Festival Challenge

How many 50 cent pieces can be placed end to end down the main street of Foster?

That is the Seachange Festival Challenge.

This unusual event will involve masses of 50 cent pieces
a lot of masking tape and organiser Prue Fleming, with all funds collected to go to the South Gippsland Hospital.

The coins will be attached to special tape which can be wound up on a cable drum
- Prue will ensure there are no surreptitious removals!

"This idea goes back many years to the time I was growing up in Foster, and the hospital used to raise funds by getting people to cover a sign with coins in front of the newsagency", says Prue.

"It is absolutely staggering what these coins can add up to when the whole community chips in.  If the line gets to 500 metres, the total in 50 cent pieces would be $7,500. Since it all goes to our South Gippsland Hospital, what could be better?"

Prue is urging everyone to get a jar and start saving their 50 cent pieces.

"Won't it be great to pile up the 50 cent pieces in a wheelbarrow and take it into the bank on Monday morning?  If we raise $7000 plus, that would weigh 210 kilograms,
and we'll be needing that wheelbarrow!'
